Today
I am going home to Sweden. Time for a short trip
before
driving to the airfield. This
is an accessible and
nice peak. You can go by car from Aosta to Pila,
and
from there with the lift to more than 2300m. Clear paths
and signs
show the way up the mountain
|
It's
only a 5-10min walk to Lago di Chamole. |
The
trail leads around the lake, and then up the slopes with swichbacks.
Testa Nera rises behind.
|
|
|
|
Until
2640m the path is easy. After the signs it gets
steeper and more
difficult. |
There
is some scrambling here. If you don't like hights, do
not take this
route. |
You
can continue up the ridge, all the way to Punta della Valletta
a
little to the left (with the summit cross), 3090m. The trail up is a
little more difficult, and with the snow ridge at this time, I would
not try it.

The summit cross
on Testa Nera,
2819m, with Mt. Blanc
in the background. A very, very impressive mountain. |
This is a very good
viewpoint. Aosta is more than 2200
altitute meters below, and Grand Combin, 4314m, in the
background to the right. |
A
closeup on Grand Combin. A very, very impressive mountain. What, have I
already said that?
|
|
|
|
Close
by, to the east, rises Monte Emilius 3559m. |
But the most impressive of them all, from
here, must be La Grivola 3969m. |
I
make my descent on the other side, the western. This trail leads
directly to the lift station and a cappuccino, without any technical
difficulties. This is the route for those who don't want steep
climbs.
